Next up was directing alongside my friend Ed , we adapted Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing into a setting of the 1950's Messina Diner in Brighton . The story goes as so ...
In the
setting of the Messina Diner in 1950’s Brighton, Much Ado About Nothing tells
the story of young
lovers Hero and Claudio who are to be
married in one week. To pass the time, they conspire with Duequessa Paulina to
set a "lover's trap" for Benedick, an arrogant confirmed bachelor,
and Beatrice, his favourite sparring partner. Meanwhile, the evil Dona Joanne
conspires with her henchmen Borachio and Conradyne to break up the wedding by accusing Hero of
infidelity, when it is really Borachio with Margaret one of the waitresses in
the diner . Dona Joanne finds Claudio and her sister Duequessa Paulina to
inform them of Hero’s deception , which they believe and go on to plan to break up the wedding by accusing Hero of
infidelity .
Act 2.
Dogberry
and Verges are policewomen who patrol
the area around the Messina Diner , discover the evil trickery of the villain
Dona Joanne , by overhearing her two henchman Borachio and Conradyne discussing
the plan out loud .Dogberry and Verges try and inform Leonato of their findings
but he is too busy preparing for the wedding
and tells them to deal with it themselves . The wedding day arrives and
Claudio rejects Hero at the altar on the erroneous belief that she has been
unfaithful. Leonato believes this at first and takes his fury out on Hero , but
Friar Francis conducts a plan tricking
Claudio and Duequessa Paulina into believing that Hero has died, due to
the false claim put upon her . Benedick and Beatrice declare their love for one
another , and Benedick vows to Beatrice that he will prove Hero was innocent .Hero’s innocence is
proved , with the help of Dogberry and
Verges forcing the henchman to come clean . Dona Joanne runs away , and in the end there is the celebration of two happy marriages taking place .
The show did have it's up's and down's , but in the end it went of without a hitch, everyone looked fantastic in their 1950's costumes and the cast and crew worked really hard to make it a success , so thanks to all involved !!!
I have also , in true style been watching shows as well as acting in them . I went to see Sweet Bird of Youth starring Kim Cattrall back in late June early July and it was brilliant . It told the story of Chance Wayne, who returns to his home town as the companion of a faded movie
star, Alexandra Del Lago (travelling incognito as Princess Kosmonopolis), whom
he hopes to use to help him break into the movies. The main reason for his
homecoming is to get back what he had in his youth: primarily, his old
girlfriend, whose father had run him out of town years before.
Kim Cattrall and Seth Numrich were both very powerful in this show, it was a very moving story with a sad ending , but I really enjoyed it and met Kim Cattrall afterwards as well, she is a lovely lady !!!
I also saw Les Mis in the west end , a show I have not seen !!! I loved the film and the stage show is very different from the film in a good way . The set is very sparse , but works well with the piece . I particularly enjoyed Eponine's performance it was really sad but touching and the Theardiners were hilarious . I would recommend going to see it , its a fab show !!! And most recently I saw Top Hat again , top price seats for half price , it was great to see one of my favourite shows up close and the dancing , singing and costumes were all mesmerising !!!
We also managed to see Miranda in Brighton , it was a show to test out new material but was worth the £12.50 we paid for the tickets , which again was a bargain to me . She touched on different peoples walks, flirting , being a adult bridesmaid and hating the dress and Making Britain More BeyoncĂ© - which she intends to do and I think its a good idea lol!!!
Final thing to touch on is Shakespeare's Songs, Scenes and Sonnet's which is a evening of Shakespeare . I'm looking forward to taking part in this and treading the boards in traditional costumes and as Helena in a Midsummer Scene as well !!! Why not check it out ?
